Hunting geese in Iceland

Melar is a private hunting areas in Iceland, which are some of the best goose hunting areas in Europe. The combination of more than 300 hectares of crops barley, grass and wetland, makes Melar extremely favorable habitat for geese. During hunting season in this area are more than a thousand geese. To understand the size of our hunting grounds: 300 hectares of land is 3.000.000 m2, which area is equal to 420 football fields.
We have developed a range of services which contribute to the hunt at the highest level. On site you can stay 12 hunters but their number is limited to four per day. This is done to ensure that the geese have always had enough space to eat and relax, and also for normal and full of birds in the area.
To maintain the quality of hunting throughout the entire season, the maximum number of geese a hunter is 16 birds per day.
Hunting begins early in the morning when it's still dark. An hour before sunrise, hunters have is on the field. The hunt lasts 3-4 hours after dawn. Sometimes we organize hunting in the afternoon or evening.
The location of hunting grounds: Melar, 30 min drive from Reykjavik.

We offer two programs hunting geese "Extreme hunting" and "Hunting - All inclusive".
 
"Hunting - All inclusive" hunt the full range of services is usually planned for 3 days. This is ideal for hunters who expect to experience not only the pleasure of hunting but to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Iceland.In the afternoon you have the opportunity to participate in other activities such as excursions by car, on a super jeep or helicopter, fishing on the river or in the sea, ride horses and, of course, to visit the best restaurants in Reykjavik.
Guides: local guide, or one guide per two hunters.
Hunting grounds: hunting alone, perhaps together with maximum two other hunters.

PROGRAM:
  • Day 1. Driver / guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you to Your hotel where You will briefly familiarize with the plan of hunting. If you decide to stay in B & B near the hunting grounds, you will be served a nice dinner.
  • Day 2 and 3. Early rise! The guide will take you to the hunting area one hour before dawn. In between hunting guests will be offered coffee and snacks. Hunting ends around noon then tour guide will accompany you to Your hotel. The second half of the day is for free time.
  • Day 4 the First half of the day corresponds to the routine of the previous two days. After the hotel you will be transferred either to Reykjavik or Keflavik Int. airport.
"Extreme" hunting - 3 day hunt
This type of hunting is for those hunters who want to take maximum part in the organization and in the hunt. By selecting this program You will learn a lot about goose hunting in Iceland.
Hunter will actively participate in each stage of the hunt. You will be given an opportunity, together with a guide to organize and plan the hunt; for example, rastavit bait and then, after the hunt, to remove them.
Number of hunters: 3 or 4 people
Guides: 1 for the group
Accommodation: Cottage - self. On the day of arrival of the round will take the hunters to the local supermarket to buy food for the stay.

PROGRAM:
  • Day 1. Driver / guide will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the store to purchase food items at the time of the hunt. After You will be transferred to your cottage. If You arrive the day before the hunt or early enough then You will be given the opportunity to accompany a guide to the inspection and selection of locations to hunt.
  • Day 2 and 3. Early rise! The tour guide will take you to the hunting area one hour before dawn. Hunting ends around noon then tour guide will accompany you to the cottage. After lunch, the guide will pick You up and You will go back to the field to plan the next day's hunt.
  • Day 4. The first half of the day corresponds to the routine of the previous two days. After a rest You will be taken either in Reykjavik or Keflavik Int. airport.
 
The maximum number of geese? - 16 Geese for the hunter a day. On auspicious days the hunter can easily meet this goal. In ordinary days you can expect from 5 to 10 geese for the hunter.
Can I bring my weapons? - Sure, no problem. Please note that in Iceland it is possible to use weapons with a maximum number of cartridges - 2, and 1 extra cartridge in the barrel. Iceland
It is possible to rent equipment? Yes. You can rent a weapon and necessary equipment for hunting.
What weapon should I use? - The chassis is a weapon 12-gauge semi-automatic.
What ammo should I use? - We use 42-50 grams of shot, No. 2-4 . The cartridges can be bought in Iceland.
Outfit? What kind of things should I wear? - Camouflage, waterproof and warm clothing and shoes.
