Hunting Marco Polo in Tajikistan

The Pamir argali, is named after the Venetian traveler and merchant Marco Polo, who was the first European to describe his horns in the XIII century. The largest individuals of argali Marco Polo (Ovisammonpolii) occur in the Central and Eastern regions of the Pamirs, in Tajikistan at an altitude of about 5,000 meters above sea level.
